Revd. Isaac Yomi Akinkunmi
Religiously Lawyered?
Born in Ibadan fifty years ago. A product of Saviour Apostolic Church School and the Ibadan Grammar School. Worked with Great Nigeria Insurance Company till 1979 before travelling to U.K to study. He read Business Studies/Marketing Management at Greenwich graduated in 1982. He later studied Comparative Religion and was ordained at the St. Michaels Mission Church, lagos in 1988.
Missionary and human rights activities took Revd. Akinkunmi through the West Africa sub-region with his conflict resolution programme of Inter-Faith registered in the Gambia in 1992. Regular programme in Europe became prominent when he finally started his London centre in 1996. In 1999, he opened the first African Stress Relief Centre commissioned by the then Mayor of Wandsworth Mrs. Lola Ayanrinde and the then Acting Nigerian High Commissioner Hon. Ekatu Ella.
The passion to assist his disciples and members of his congregation took him back to study Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Law with a Diploma and Certificate in Appeal Procedure. He also attended the University of Northampton bagging a honours degree in Law with special interest on Human Rights and Immigration. At the University of Bolton, He studied for the post graduate Masters in Professional/Personal development. He has won many awards- the latest in January 2009 on his Human Rights Aware project.
He is the Senior Minister of Salvation Church of God, registered in Uk in 1996 and currently the Director of Human Rights Centre an independent Human Rights/Advocacy organisation. A publisher of several books, featuring in several journals and radio programmes. He is a member of several professional bodies on the field of Religion, Human Rights and Law.
Rev. Akinkunmi is married with five children, three grand children and several disciples all over the world who identify with his hard Afrocentric and illuminating ideals and messages.
Revd Akinkunmi's sermons and programme are very controversial but thought provoking and educative. The most popular being "PERISCOPE" which is produced to shed light on the scripture, history and practical christianity. His chore belief in practical christianity is far from being a modern day mediocre stage acting. He said "It is a matter of seriously using faith to give a meaning to one's life."
He has very deep passion for ignorant African Christians and is keen to help as many as possible through his programme which includes: Teaching, Personal Developmet, Culturally related Counselling and Advocacy. He runs a surgery in Manchester and once a month in his London office. His advise session is attended by people from all works of life including the professionals and well placed in the society from home and abroad.
After several interviews, I was perturbed how little I know about my religion, culture and ethics. I immediately enrolled to join one of the programmes and I strongly believe this award winning erudite scholar and teacher is an embodiment of knowledge with so much to give.
The Golden Rule is one of the fundamental moral principles that is present in almost all religious traditions of the world.
Do unto others, how you like to be done unto. Speak about others, how you would like to be spoken about. Treat others, how you want to be treated.
